The other day I ran on a treadmill for the first time in a long time.

It was awful.

First, I causally draped my sweatshirt on top of the machine only to have it slip off almost causing me to face plant.

Then, less than 3 minutes later, my cell phone slips out of the “cell phone slot” almost causing me to face plant for the second time.

Once I was positive all my belongings were secure, I began to run… awkwardly.  I would run too fast and trip over the front of the machine or punch the STOP button with my fists. Or, I would run too slow and feel like I was going to go flying off the back.

Plus, I had no clue where to look. I would look at the TV screen, but I would have to risk going mad staring at my time ticking away as slow as ever. I could look up at the ceiling, but my neck started to hurt pretty quickly. So, I ended up looking at everyone else.

Wow, he’s sweating a lot. How is she running with her hair down? Whoa, she’s going really fast. Oops! She just caught me staring at her.

Let’s just say, I ran just two miles before I bailed and tried desperately not to look even more awkward lifting weights.

I guess I’m just not a fan of gyms.

So, in order to run blissfully alone outside during these winter months, it’s important to have some great cold weather running gear.

Cold Weather Running Gear that’ll Keep you Warm

1. ASICS Women’s Thermopolis LT Tights 1. ASICS Women’s Thermopolis LT Tights : I LOVE these running tights. They are warm, but not too warm. Plus, they are very comfortable. A lot of tights tend to fall down, but these are a great fit.

2. Balega Blister Resist Socks: I made the huge mistake of wearing my regular, ol’ cotton socks during my half marathon. As a result, I ended up with the grossest blister I had ever seen. Fortunately, my mom bought me these wonderful pair of balega socks. They are warm and keep my feet protected from anymore unsightly blisters.

3. Trailheads Power Stretch Women’s Running Gloves: Gloves are certainly important when running in cold weather- especially if you have to keep your hand on a stroller. I like that these are stretchy, warm, and still let me use my cell phone without taking them off.

4. Superior Running Belt: Truthfully, sometimes I wish that it was socially acceptable to wear a fanny pack. It would make things a lot easier being hands free. This “running belt” aka fanny pack is perfect for holding keys, and it even fits your iPhone. It’s not necessary for cold weather running, but it is nice.

5. Trailheads Neck Warmer: You don’t realize how wonderful it is to have a neck warmer until you try one out. Your neck is often left out in the cold during runs and a scarf can be a pain.

6. Northface Apex Bionic Jacket: I love this jacket. It’s really warm, but it still allows me to run without being constrictive. I also like all of the deep pockets. They are great if you don’t feel like purchasing the running fanny pack running belt above.

7. Trailheads Goodbye Girl Ponytail Headband: This is a great ear warmer. It stays put, keeps my hair up and keeps my ears nice and warm.

8. Nike Dri Fit Wool Half Zip Pullover: This pullover is cute and keeps me warm. I love all the different color options too.
