Banana Oat Cookies

Banana Oat Cookies- Perfect snack for the kids!

*Note: My lovely sister-in-law has graciously written a guest post for The Good Mama. You can find Melissa over at The Domestic Duck where she shares her fabulous recipes, DIY crafts, sewing, and knitting patterns. She’s seriously amazing!

Hello Good Mama readers! I am Good Mama’s sister-in-law, the Domestic Duck.

I know we all love that Good Mama is an inspiring health nut, so let me start with an admission: I’m nowhere near as health conscious as Good Mama. I’m more like, the macadamia nut of health nuts – I could be much worse, but I could certainly be better. I love butter. And salt. And sugar.

I try to temper this love with some healthy recipes that taste like treats. Apples and bananas are great substitutions to make yummy recipes healthy.

Although, some recipes need a little sugar (ask Good Mama about her apple sauce banana bread…), many can be perfectly good without it. These Banana Oat Cookies are delicious and they don’t include sugar, butter, eggs or gluten (if you buy the right oats), for anyone with food sensitivities in the family. I added chocolate chips (see above, non-health nut admission), but you can easily leave them out, or substitute raisins. You could also leave out the honey if your bananas are very ripe, or substitute a tablespoon of sugar, if you prefer.

Banana Oat Cookies- Perfect for my kids!

We took our cookies to the park for a picnic. My daughter and I are trying to spend as much time out in this perfect fall weather as possible! This cookies are satisfyingly chewy and filling, perfect for a playtime energy boost. I hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

Banana Oat Cookies

Yield: 2 dozen cookies

Banana Oat Cookies

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe bananas, mashed with a fork
  • 2 cups oats *I use regular old-fashioned
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp of cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter *or your favorite nut butter alternative
  • 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips or raisins *optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven at 350 degrees.
  2. Combine ingredients in a large bowl.
  3. *The dough should have a kind of wet, cookie dough texture. If your bananas were big or your dough seems too wet, add oats a little at a time until consistency seems right.
  4. Drop rounded spoonfuls onto a parchment lined baking sheet.
  5. Bake 10 minutes.
  6. Enjoy!
