I am new to this whole blogging thing (Read about Why I Started Blogging).
So, I am on the computer… a lot. In other words, I am sitting, staring at a screen… a lot.
This is new for me. As a kindergarten teacher I was constantly up and down and all over the place. Even as a stay-at-home mom, I have found myself running up and down stairs and chasing after W and Zig. Nap time was mostly used for cleaning and exercising.
Now a days, more often than not, I plop myself down at the computer whenever I get a spare second. It’s as if the computer is beckoning me like Sleeping Beauty’s spindle.
In order for me to prevent losing feeling in my legs and attempt to save my eyesight, I have come up with a plan.
How to Stay Fit While Blogging
I have decided to give myself a challenge. The idea came to me after reading about Sue Parke’s awesome September Fitness Challenge.
I’ve decided to take on her challenge for the month of September in addition to my own blogging challenge.
I’m locking the computer down.
Anytime I feel the desire to plant myself at the computer for blogging, social media, or mindlessly scrolling through my Facebook feed I am must complete a series of short exercises.
- 20 Jumping Jacks
- 10 pushups
- 20 Burpees
- 20 squats
- 1 minute plank hold
Once I have finished the 5 exercises, I am free to blog away.
That’s it!
It’ll take less than 5 minutes, and, depending on how much time you spend on the computer, it’ll really add up!
For instance, the other day I completed 60 jumping jacks, 30 pushups, 60 burpees, 60 squats and 3 minutes of plank holds. Not too bad.
So, if you start your day with a feeling that your time might be sucked away into the blog world, try out this challenge.
What a great idea! As much as I love blogging I HATE sitting to do everything. I try and stand most of the time at my counter but this is a perfect solution as well! 🙂

Annmarie- I like the idea to stand while you blog. I hate sitting for too long too. I was thinking about bringing out my exercise ball too.
Genius! I usually ride the bike at the gym while blogging…I think your plan will be a lot more effective! Great idea!

This is genius! I may have to start doing this!
Great idea! I was just thinking about how I need to exercise before I write. Lately, I’ve been writing first. Before I know it, it’s midnight and then I’m too tired to exercise.

Why haven’t I thought of this before!?! I sit at my screen guiltily keeping track of the time until my workout.
Totally pinning this! I’m quite sure many bloggers will appreciate this, thanks!

I’m not a blogger, but I am a blog reader and this can work for people like me too! Great idea!
Hey! This is an awesome idea. Way to go! I was doing great, lost 13lbs then summer vacation hit, 3lbs came back but my get up and go didn’t. I’m going to start your challenge tomorrow, thank you so much to sharing. 🙂 Hope you have a great week.

I just did your routine. It’s great, but I don’t know what a burpee is.

Found your post through the Manic Mondays blog hop! I love this, especially as I sit here blogging away and skipping my morning workout hoping to squeeze it in this afternoon 🙂 haha! Thanks for sharing! I will definitely have to take this into consideration once I’m not pregnant anymore and can do burpees and stuff again!

Thank you for sharing this! Swimming is a good option for people who spend long days in front of computers screens and lead a sedentary lifestyle, too. A few minutes of swimming every day are very beneficial for your body and mind. While you swim, all your muscles are working, but at the same time, it doesn’t stress your body the way jogging or strength workouts do.
I’ve tried it out and I really feel better!
